This time, we meet @annacate, a creative multidisciplinarian who experiences the sea every day. She lives year-round with her family on the small island of Asperö, in Gothenburg’s southern archipelago.
What is it like to experience the sea every day?
- The sea is something I’m still in awe of. After 15 years in the city, we longed to be closer to nature. I was born and raised in Dalarna and sometimes strongly yearn for the forest.

The sea has become a substitute for the forest. We’ve lived on Asperö for over 8 years now, and I feel that I can no longer be without the sea.
Silence
- The silence out here is hard to find anywhere else. At times, it’s so quiet that the only sounds are birds and leaves of the aspens rustling in the wind.
Nature
- Nature means a lot to me, both in my creative process and for my well-being. Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate every season and live in tune with them. September and October are my favorite months when the calm has settled over the island and the air is crisp and clear. I don’t mind the rain, but more the wind. Perhaps not the best place to live considering the latter. But everything has its charm.

Winter bathing
- One day, I’m going to start winter bathing. I’ve tried a few times, but I’m just too cold-blooded. But one day... it does seem really wonderful, the feeling afterward.
- Our house is a classic archipelago villa from the 1930s. We were drawn to the large beautiful garden and the rocky plot.
- I like to bring colors and details from the sea into my home when I decorate.
- Sometimes, of course, the boat commuting is tough, having to rush and keep track of the ferry schedules. But it’s quickly forgiven once you're out on the sea, leaving the city behind... the calm that sets in.
