linen

Why choose linen?

Breathable and temperature regulating
Linen is airy and helps regulate body temperature. It keeps you cool in warm weather and provides warmth when it’s cooler, making it comfortable to wear all year round.

Naturally moisture-wicking
Linen fabric is highly absorbent and can absorb up to 20% of its weight in moisture before it feels damp. This helps keep you dry and cool.

Durable and long-lasting
Linen fibres are strong and resilient, allowing garments and textiles made from linen to maintain their quality and last for many years.

Environmentally friendly
Linen is a durable natural material with a very long lifespan. Untreated linen is fully biodegradable and naturally resistant to moths. The fabric withstands high temperatures, feels cool in heat and absorbs moisture without trapping bacteria. Over time, linen becomes both softer and stronger, meaning it only improves with use – often lasting for generations.

How do I care for linen in the best way?

Washing and drying

For best results, linen should be hand washed in lukewarm water, around 30°C, using a mild detergent. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals, as they can damage the fibres. Rinse thoroughly and gently squeeze out excess water without wringing too hard.

After washing, linen should be air dried either flat or hanging, preferably in a dry and well-ventilated area. If the fabric is slightly damp, it can be gently ironed for a smoother finish – although linen is also beautiful with its natural creases. Proper hand washing and gentle drying help preserve the strength, softness and natural texture of linen, allowing it to improve over time.

Linen from emmamalena

Flax is a natural material with a long history of quality and durability. To ensure that linen’s positive qualities are preserved from cultivation to finished product, FLAX certifications exist. One of the most established is Masters of Flax Fibre™. This certification guarantees that the flax is grown in Western Europe under controlled conditions, without artificial irrigation, GMOs or unnecessary chemicals, and with full traceability from field to fibre.

For us at emmamalena, FLAX certification is an important part of our material choices. It ensures not only high quality, but also that the products are created with respect for nature, craftsmanship and the people behind the raw material. The certification means that the entire flax plant is utilised, the fibres are processed mechanically, and environmental impact is kept as low as possible.
