Viskos

Viscose is a semi-synthetic material made from natural raw materials such as wood pulp or bamboo. It feels soft and fluid, with a smooth surface that gives garments an elegant and luxurious look. Viscose is a great option if you’re looking for a fabric that is light and breathable, while still offering a beautiful drape.

Here, we guide you through everything you need to know about viscose – from the fabric’s properties to how to care for your garments so they maintain their quality over time.

Why choose viscose?

Soft and fluid feel
Viscose is smooth against the skin and gives garments an elegant silhouette. The fabric moves beautifully with the body, creating a soft and natural drape.

Breathable and comfortable
Viscose is breathable and feels cool against the skin, making it comfortable to wear – especially on warmer days.

A plant-based material
When sourced from responsibly managed forests and produced with care, viscose can be a more sustainable option. With proper care, garments can have a long lifespan and maintain their quality over time.

How do I care for viscose garments?

Viscose requires a little extra care when washing, as the fibres are more delicate when wet. By washing gently and handling the garment with care, you help it maintain its shape, drape and quality over time.

Washing and drying

Wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle and avoid high spin speeds, as the fabric is more sensitive when wet. Use a laundry bag if possible and avoid overloading the washing machine.

Always air dry viscose and avoid tumble drying, as heat can affect both shape and fit. Gently reshape the garment while it is still damp and iron on low to medium heat, preferably with steam, to restore its beautiful drape.

FSC-certified viscose from emmamalena

At emmamalena, we always strive to make conscious choices – both in design and production. One of those choices is working with FSC®-certified materials. FSC-certified viscose means that the wood raw material used to produce the fibres comes from responsibly managed forests.

The FSC certification ensures that forestry practices take environmental impact, biodiversity and social conditions into account. It provides reassurance that the material originates from a more sustainable and traceable source of forestry.
